Moving into a newly built apartment at Indooroopilly in Brisbane, David Skinner was keen to add some character and warmth to the place. So he decked out his new home with our wide-board hardwood flooring. David was so pleased with the results, he did his office showroom too. (David runs a signage contracting businessCroc Creek Signs.)  It helped to resell his apartment when the time came to move on. And, at Croc Creek Signs today, it provides an effective contrast with his high-tech products, creating an excellent impression with clients.

We supplied 100 year old Ironbark hardwood from a former wharf in Brisbane. David says the rustic recycled hardwood flooring changed the whole atmosphere of his living and working spaces.

"The hardwood floors look fantastic. The lumber is a real feature and a welcome change from the carpet it replaced. Its very durable and easy to look after. And any wear and tear can only add more character.

David Skinner

"The recycled wood floors are a big hit with guests, and stand up to the toughest treatment.

Renovating their home at Yeronga in Brisbane, Trevor and Mary Dickinson sought a flooring material that would complement the architecture and suit their lifestyle.

We salvaged the Tallowwood from an old bridge at Ipswich, west of Brisbane. And the Dickinson's used it to spectacular effect. The lumber was precision milled to the Dickinsons specifications1000 x 200 millimetre boards, which were laid in a herringbone pattern. The Tallowwood hardwood flooring has been used throughout the kitchen, dining and living areas.

Trevor says the recycled flooring is the highlight of the house.

The Tallowwood is beautifullike a bright teak. It suits the character of the house superbly and its great for maintenance. We get lots of comments on the floors.

The Dickinsons' run a large retail nurseryGarden Way. Theyve used highly durable Australian hardwood flooring throughout the nurserys heavily trafficked retail areas.

The timbers are just amazing. The grain and colour are fantastic. Its possibly the best wood you could find. And the timber floors just get better with age. Bretts Wharf is a very large and busy restaurant, and the recycled timbers have created a very warm and comfortable atmosphere. Its all part of creating a welcoming and unique exeachience.

Property developers Nicky and Balfour Irvine wanted a richly textured wide-board hardwood floor for their new home at Bulimba in Brisbane. And with four kids, durability was a key issue. We recommended recycled Blackbutt timber flooring.

The Irvines' decked out the entire downstairs area with the resilient coastal hardwoodkitchen, dining and living rooms and study. The recycled lumber floors were coated with tung oil for a robust, low maintenance finish.

Nicky says they wouldnt change a thing.

Our floors are fantastic. The Blackbutt hardwood is beautiful, and the wide boards make a huge difference. Hardwood flooring is ideal for a busy household like ours. And the old timbers give the new house a lot of character. Everybody who comes here says I love your floors. We do too.

Nicky Irvine

When Mel Brookman had his new home designed and built at Bulimba in Brisbane, he wanted to create a modern living space with character and warmth. He was keen to use natural building materials wherever possible.

We supplied recycled Ironbark hardwood for Mels flooring, beams, kitchen benches and cabinets. Mel reckons the recycled Australian hardwood was an excellent alternative to new lumber and other building materials.

The recycled Ironbark timber flooring looks great, feels great and is easy to live witha much better solution than carpets, tiles and laminates. Its brought a lot of character and history to a new place. We used a natural building material, and we didnt have to cut down any more trees in the process.

Mel Brookman

"The timber strikes a good balance with the contemporary dcor of the restauranthelping us to create a new destination within a historic part of the city. The rich colour and texture of the Ironbark make the modern interior very welcoming and comfortable. The floors stand up to the toughest treatment and still look great. And it doesnt take a lot to keep them that way. Maintenance is very low.

Joe Garnero of Vintage Lumber Works is a retailer of recycled lumber in Ukiah, California. Among his favourite and most popular lines are the recycled Australian hardwoods from Salvage.

Joe has purchased wide-board recycled flooring in Blackbutt, Jarrah, Ironbark, Mountain Ash and mixed blends of various Australian hardwoods from Queensland. He says Australian Salvage lumber has a big appeal for the Californian market, in both commercial and domestic applications. And theyre regularly specified by local architects and interior designers.

Australian hardwoods are unlike anything we have here. Theyve got a lot of character and history. Theyre harder than most of the local lumber here and they represent excellent value for money. Our customers really respond to the colour and texture. Theyre unique, and theres a lot of romance going on.

Joe Garnero

Architect Tony Dempsey has used our recycled timbers in many of his practices projectsboth new developments and historic restorations.

When Tony wanted wanted a strong contemporary feel for a modern multi-residential development, we created a blend of several complementary recycled hardwoods to deliver the desired effect. A different blend was created for a very different applicationthe restoration of several mid-19th century cottages.

Redesigning the kitchen of his own late-19th century home, Tony chose old Hoop Pine for the island benchwhich he reckons looks more like a piece of furniture, and creates a focus for the kitchen.

I love the recycled Australian hardwoods for their texture, strength and stability. Theyre so close-grained, and the drying process has happened so slowly, theyre very stable and unbelievably hard. The richness and warmth of the timber are just exceptional. Every piece is unique. Its timber flooring with real character and were not chopping down more trees.

Tony Dempsey
